Research Area
Ligand-gated ion channels

Research Interest
Ligand-gated ion channel expression
Ligand-gated ion channels play critical roles in many cell processes and are the targets of a large number of medicines and toxins. Although much has been accomplished in understanding the structure and   function of ligand-gated ion channels, much less is know about how certain medicines and toxins bind to and modify this class of receptors.  Current studies in this lab combine in silico docking studies with in vitro transient cell transfection and site-directed mutagenesis to identify how the nicotinic  acetylcholine receptor interacts with pharmacologically important ligands at the amino acid level.
