• jose-189x300March 2015 – José Muñiz, a senior at the Specialized School in Science and Mathematics Brígida Álvarez Rodríguez High School, who performed his summer research at UCC in the laboratory of Dr. Ramon Jorquera was awarded 1st place in the scientific fair.  His work “Locomotor Analysis of Drosophila Mutants Affecting Neurotransmitter Release” will now be presented at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he will be representing Puerto Rico.  José has been accepted into the BS in Neuroscience at the American University Washington D.C.

  • Fellowship from the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Program (2013-2014)
  • Second place in the Molecular Biology category AEMPR during the 6th Annual Medical Students Association Convention.  The research project presented:  “Reishi mushroom and migration modulation, as well as Reishi complementary effects with conventional therapeutics”.  He performed the research at UCC in the laboratory of Dr. Michelle Martínez. (2014)
  • First place in the BIOExpo 2014. His research, titled: “Anti-Cancer Effects of Reishi on Inflammatory Breast Cancer Cells”, was performed at the UCC Biochemistry Department, under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Martínez.
