The Department of Pediatrics offers the medical students of UCCSOM, the opportunity to participate as part of the healthcare teams thru their clinical rotations in the best Pediatric Hospitals of Puerto Rico. We currently have affiliations with San Jorge Children’s in Santurce and Puerto Rico Children’s Hospital at Bayamon. The clinical clerkship consists of six weeks clinical rotation which encompasses encounters with acutely ill children in hospitalized settings and at their initial evaluation at the Emergency Room. These will provide them with the experience to develop a comprehensive healthcare management to these patients and an adequatefollow up discharge plan in coordination with qualified attending staff.
The Department also provides ample opportunity to the medical students for elective rotations in general and pediatric subspecialty in other medical institutions both in Puerto Rico and the USA. At present members of the Faculty are also involved in medical research with special interest in retro virology (Pediatric AIDS) and endocrinology.
Our aim is to provide the students with a wide variety of clinical settings in which they can develop their clinical and research skills in a fully enriched setting.
