The UCC Endowment Fund

Permanent in character, its return destined to give support to those university projects which without your help would be difficult if not impossible to realize. By making your donation to this fund, you are actively contributing to relieving the institution’s needs and those of future health professionals. When you contribute to the Endowment Fund, you assist in our priorities, which are:
• Award scholarships to students
• Strengthen the technological infrastructure
• Improve the institution’s physical facilities
• Lend support to scientific research

Direct Scholarship Fund

To counteract the existing situation that financial aid for medical students in Puerto Rico is insufficient, the UCC and its Board of Directors have launched various initiatives. As opposed to the Scholarship Fund, wherein only the yields are utilized, the Scholarship Funds raised are granted in their entirety at the commencement of each academic year.

• Capital Campaign – The Capital Campaign grew out of our determination to offer our students and faculty better and improved facilities. Its fundraising objective will serve to remodel the institution’s central square and the construction of new rooms for student use and faculty meetings.

• Friends of the UCC Mural – Consists of the placement of commemorative plaques forming a permanent Mural located in the UCC Basic Sciences Building.

• Legacy Society – Consisting of a four-year commitment to awarding student scholarships. As a member, you will have the following benefits:

o 20 Continuing Education module credits (donation of $1,000 or more)
o Participation in the Graduation Ceremony

o Press releases and articles in the media, newspaper and professional magazines
o Invitation to the White Coat Ceremony
o Invitation to participate in the Investiture Ceremony

• Direct Scholarships – The UCC’s direct scholarship fund is awarded in the following academic programs: Medical Images, Substance Abuse and the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences.

• Emergency Fund – The UCC Deanship of Students has identified the need to assist students with limited resources that do not have the financial means to cover essential expenses related to their academic work. For these purposes, an emergency fund was created, receiving donations from employees, faculty and graduates. Donation Options: ____$20 ____$40 ___$50 ___$100

The Universidad Central del Caribe Alumni Association is in an initial development process in order to include the participation of alumnus/alumnae from all the academic institutional programs. The Alumni Association of the School of Medicine at Universidad Central del Caribe was established in 1996 and has had an active role during the past sixteen years.

The purpose of the SoM Alumni Association is to strengthen bonds of brotherhood among its members and support the institutional development of their Alma Mater.

As appointed President of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, I am excited and committed to carry out activities that conduct in professional benefit for each of us and at the same time, continue to support and strengthen our Alma Mater.

During our past convention, held on October at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel, it was chosen the new members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. We are glad to inform you the results:

Recently we had heard in the news about some medical schools have had problems with their accreditation and this has bought concern to all of us that are linked with the UCCEM. With an upcoming visit of the medical accreditation agency (LCME) to the UCCEM on February 2012, the Institutional Development Office (IDO) is conducting a number of initiatives to expand the scholarship fund in compliance with one of the standards of LCME. The Board of Directors of the Alumni Association and myself have committed to support a fund raising activity event that the IDO is planning for next year called Occupy Health Street. I’m confident in counting with your support. We will provide you with the details soon.  Remember, this is the time to reciprocate what the UCC did for us, making our dream come true.

The UCC had conferred over 3,800 (total) degrees in the disciplines of Doctor in Medicine, Medical Images Technologists, Biomedical Graduates and Substance Abuse Counsellors. We are proud to announce that the majority holds leadership roles in their medical field of specialization.
