CENTER
During the past thirty years of its foundation, research at the
Universidad Central del Caribe has undergone a steady growth.
Significant progress has been made thanks to minority research
programs like the Research Centers for Minority Institutions
(RCMI) which have successfully supported research by providing
the most needed infrastructure.
In the late 90’s our Institutional Strategic Plan envisioned
the creation of a Cell and Molecular Biology Center. This decision
stemmed from the fact that many of our faculty, both established
and new were applying or were planning to develop experimental
approaches focused at specialized biology level. Many of them,
however, found themselves working in isolated clusters and in
need of state of the art equipment. The inherence that Cell
and Molecular Biology has in our current knowledge of normal
and abnormal processes, made a strong and logical argument
in favor of the demands of the research faculty.
A proposal for the creation of a Cell and Molecular Biology Center
was submitted to the RCMI Program on October 2000 and was
successfully granted on September 2001.
