UCC School of Medicine is proud of the accomplishments of Dr. Ivette J. Suárez Arroyo and Dr. Michelle Martínez Montemayor

The Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine is proud of the accomplishments of Dr. Ivette J. Suárez Arroyo and Dr. Michelle Martínez Montemayor, postdoctoral fellow and Associate Professor (respectively), from the Department of Biochemistry. Their article, titled “Anti-tumor effects of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) in inflammatory breast cancer in in vivo and in vitro models” (PLoS ONE 8(2): e57431), is being recognized among the top 25% cited PLOS ONE articles.

This study details Reishi’s efficacy in suppressing protein synthesis and tumor growth by affecting survival and proliferative signaling pathways that act on translation mechanisms in inflammatory breast cancer models. This is a collaborative study done with San Pablo Pathology and New York University Cancer Institute. The full text is available through open access in the PLOS ONE and PubMed websites. Congratulations!
