Doctors Leave Legacy to Future Generations

Graduates of the School of Medicine of the Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC), the President and Dean of Medicine, Dr. Jose Ginel Rodriguez, Trustees, Deans, and faculty members, celebrated Philanthropy Month by leaving a legacy to future generations. Dreams are made reality for young people wishing to study medicine, through fund-raising initiatives to grant scholarships for students with limited economic resources. The Rincon of the Seas Grand Caribbean Hotel served as the stage for welcoming businessmen, graduates, and a great group of friends from the West and South regions of Puerto Rico. Everyone present enjoyed an elegant evening, graced with the sounds of Dr. Carlos Rosario, graduate of the Class of ’80, and his orchestra “Somos Seis”. The Legacy Society, an exclusive group of philanthropists who have been active in fundraising activities for the Scholarship Fund, and friends of the “Mural Amigos de la UCC” (Friends of the UCC Mural), achieved their fundraising goal for the event. Dr. Rodriguez thanked all present for their support, in particular Dr. Herminio Velez, OB-GYN, Class of ’87, and Dr. Carlos V. Rosario, Cardiologist, Class of ’80, for their efforts in coordinating the event. It is thanks to the contribution of these distinguished donors during academic year 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, that the awarding of the amount of $53,900, benefitting 35 students, has been possible.
